National News:

Maharashtra government will offer 250 services online through its portal 'Aaple Sarkar' by August 2016, says its CM Devendra Fadnavis.

 

Transport minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government is planning to setup 2000 water ports in India.There are plans to start Ro-Ro (Roll on Roll off) services at 5 citites including Haldia, Patna,Varanasi with the world bank's assistance.

 

Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu launched IT-enabled handheld terminals for travelling ticket examiners (TTEs) for passenger list updation, a mobile app for booking unreserved tickets & E-Booking of bedrolls/ linen on Trains.

 

The Aircraft carrier INS Viraat, will be developed as a tourism centre after its decommissioning from the Navy.It was announced by Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

 

The Marine Museum was inaugurated at the Marine Aquarium and Regional Centre (MARC) of Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) in Digha, West Bengal.

Adele has been named the Global Recording Artist of 2015 by The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI).

 

IRCTC’s Next Generation e-Ticketing System (NGET) was awarded the gold national award for e-governance 2015-16 in the category of “Innovative Use of ICT by Central Government PSUs”.

 

Books:

Harry Potter is to be published again in July 2016 after nine years.It is labelled as the ‘Epic 8th Harry Potter story’ for which the offical title has not yet been named.

 

Sports News:

In the 12th South Asian Games, India now has a total of 208 medals – 123 Gold, 68 Silver and 17 Bronze.Sri Lanka ranks 2nd while Pakistan is at 3rd.

 

India entered finals of the Under-19 World Cup beating Sri Lanka by 97 runs in the first semi-final at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

 

Quinton de Kock became the youngest cricketer to have reached 10 ODI 100`s breaking Virat Kohli`s record.This helped South Africa defeat England in the 3rd 5-match ODI series in Centurion on Tuesday.

 

Obituaries:

Film director Aurobindo Mukherjee passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal at eh age of 97.He directed some of the cult Bengali classics like Agniswar, Mouchak and Nishi Padma in 1970s.

 

Lance Naik Hanamanthappa, aged 33 who had been battling for life at the Army’s Research & Referral hospital, died today.
