There was a season when software/ IT jobs were in hot demand among freshers in India.But, during the past few years, the demand for bank jobs and govt jobs have increased tremendously.

It has become so popular that people who are already employed as IT professionals are applying for bank exams in large numbers.Last year, govt banks had collectively filled a total of 36,000 jobs.

Indian IT sector mostly relies on international markets for business.The primary reason cited by IT professionals to appear for banking and govt exams is stability and career security, compared to IT jobs.

With a slowdown in economy across the world, due to covid19 pandemic, many IT employees have lost their jobs or had their salaries cut, bringing back the attention to govt jobs.

To help those who are looking for a career move, here is the list of important banking exams & posts that IT engineers are eligible and can apply .

Which IBPS Bank Exams Can you Apply?

IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) is the agency that takes care of recruitment activities for entry level jobs in govt. banks.

So if you are moving from IT to public sector banks, there are certain IBPS exams that you need to qualify to get jobs.Let us look at them below:

IBPS PO Exam:You must apply for this if you wish to become an officer (probationary officer) in a nationalized bank.

  • Pass in any degree
  • Age to be within 20 – 30 yrs
  • No Experience required
  • Approximate monthly salary is Rs.38,000-42,000 (take-home)

The IBPS PO 2020 examination will be conducted in October 2020 & registrations shall open in August/ September.

IBPS Clerk Exam: You should qualify in this recruitment exam to become a clerk in any govt bank.

  • Pass in any degree
  • Aged between 20- 28 yrs
  • Experience not compulsory
  • Approx. salary of Rs.20,000 – 25,000/ month (take-home)

Dates:The IBPS Clerk 2020 exam shall be held in the month of December 2020 and notification is expected in October.

IBPS RRB Exam:Regional Rural Banks (RRB) are mostly present in rural areas to provide banking services for people living in those regions.There are 3 posts within this RRB structure that are suitable for IT workers.

Office Assistant: The job profile is similar to that of clerks in commercial banks.

  • Any degree
  • Aged between 18 – 28 years
  • Proficiency in the state`s local language (read,write & speak)

Officer (scale I):The candidate should have completed a degree & has to be within 18 – 30 yrs.He/ She must posses local language proficiency.

IT Officer (scale II):This job requires one year experience (any field)

  • Degree in Electronics/ Communication/ Computer Science/ IT with 50% marks aggregate.
  • Certificate in ASP, PHP, C++, Java, VB, VC, OCP etc. is desired.
  • Age to be between 21 – 32 years.

You can appear for Office assistant & Officer (scale I or II) exams by submitting two separate applications.

Dates: The registrations for IBPS RRB 2020 exam shall begin in July 2020 with the exams to be held in the month of August 2020.

IBPS Specialist Officer Exam:This exam is specifically created for people who have specialized degrees.Some of the posts eligible for appointment are IT Officer, Agri officer, Law officer, Marketing officer etc..

IT Officer (scale I): If you had completed BE/Btech degree & wish to work in IT dept. of a public bank, this post should be on top of your list.

  • Age must be within 20 – 30 yrs
  • 4 year Engineering Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/ IT/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunications/ ECE/ Electronics & Instrumentation
  • PG degree in the above disciplines are also accepted.

Dates:The IBPS Specialist Officer 2020 exam notification will be published in December 2020.
