SBI Clerk Exam 2016: 3 Lakh Candidates to Qualify for Mains | Expected Cutoffs

The much expected SBI clerk 2016 prelims exam is finally come to an end.It was held for the recruitment of 17000 junior associate & junior agricultural associate positions in state bank of india.Since there were large number of applicants, the preliminary exam was conducted on different dates.We take you through the overall review of the sbi clerk exam, possible cutoffs & expected number of candidates to qualify for main exam.

State Bank of India has divided the selection process for its clerical cadre recruitment into two phases, with phase I being preliminary exams.

These prelims were held on May 22, 28, 29, & June 4, 5 in four slots on each exam day.With the candidates appearing in 20 slots totally, this could well be the largest bank exam in recent times.

How Many will Qualify for SBI Clerk Mains?

As the prelims are over, the next question in the minds of 20+ lakh candidates who appeared for it would be – How many will get selected for the main examination?

According to SBI clerk notification, a total of 14132 junior associate (regular + backlog) & 3008 junior agricultural associate vacancies were announced.

The bank has planned to shortlist in the ratio of 1:20.Going by it, the approximate number shall be:

  • 3,00,000 lakh candidates for junior associates &
  • 60,000 for junior agri associates

Therefore, a total of 3.5 – 4 lakh candidates could qualify to appear for SBI clerk mains.

What will be SBI Clerk Prelims Cutoffs?

The vacancies are spread across all states of India.So, the chance of state-wise & category-wise cutoffs is very much possible.

Also there are two positions to be filled through this recruitment with each post having different number of vacancies in every state.

Hence, we may see seperate cutoff marks for junior associate & junior agri associate for the same state because of the difference in jobs.

Many candidates when asked about the SBI clerk exam review said it as moderate difficulty with numerical/ maths section as tricky.

Based on their feedback, here are the expected SBI clerk prelims cutoffs:

English: 7 – 9

Reasoning: 10 – 12

Numerical ability: 6 – 8

Inaddition to the above marks in each section, you are also required to secure certain cutoffs on total score, which could be around:

General/ UR: 46 – 52

OBC: 41 – 47

SC: 35 – 40

ST: 26 – 32

Overall speaking, candidates who have answered above 65 questions (general)correctly with 95% accuracy can put themselves in safe zone.

The poll results run on this website (right side) shows clearly that majority of you have attempted between 50 –70 questions only.

When is the SBI Clerk Prelims Results?

Just because the preliminary exam was conducted online, SBI could publish the results within 7 – 10 days.

  • You can expect the results to be announced between June 13 – 15th.
  • After 10 – 12 days of releasing the results, main exams would be held.

If everything goes as per schedule, the sbi clerk main exams could happen in the last week of June itself.

Possible delay? But a case filed in the madras high court against SBI seeks to cancel the entire recruitment for not allowing loan defaulters to apply for these clerk jobs.

State bank has been asked by the court to explain its stand on this petition in two weeks.Incase a reply is filed & court passes any judgement or interim order against SBI, the results could delayed.

Whatever it is, we shall get to know in the coming days because the court has issued notices to state bank of india & govt of India on this PIL matter.
