IBPS PO Prelims 2016: Exam Review & Expected Cutoffs [Updated after Oct 23]

IBPS PO 2016 Exam Review,IBPS PO 2016 prelims review,IBPS PO prelims cutoffs,IBPS PO 2016 prelims expected cutoffsThe IBPS PO 2016 preliminary exam has begun & many candidates have appeared on the first day itself. So here is the IBPS PO prelims 2016 exam review that will help those appearing for tests in the next shifts. You all know that the qualifiers of this test are only eligible to take the main exam.Hence we have also listed the expected cutoffs based on inputs.

The IBPS PO preliminary examination is held for recruitment of PO (officers) in public sector banks. It is scheduled to happen on October 16, 22, 23 & 27th at various centres across India in different time slots.

As per the IBPS PO preliminary exam pattern, you are required to 100 objective type questions in 1 hour. This online test will have 3 sections – English, Quantitative Aptitude & Reasoning Ability.

IBPS PO Prelims Review: Not Easy Though

After the test was complete, we got in touch with some candidates & coaching institutes to share their IBPS PO prelims exam review.

October 16: On this day, many termed the paper was easy to moderate.English & Reasoning sections were considered difficult by majority of people.

October 22 & 23: The overall difficulty level of test across all the shifts was viewed as moderate to difficult.Like the previous shift, questions in english section were tough for many candidates.

Though majority of questions were from expected chapters, few problems in quantitative aptitude was taking too long to solve.Due to this, candidates had to allot more time in understanding it & use appropriate method to arrive at the correct answer.

A statement mentioned by lot of aspirants is “English was the most difficult part among the 3 sections.”

The breakup of questions from the paper are given below.

Quantitative Aptitude: As usual, the problems in quants consumed time because of its calculative nature. It had questions from:

  • Number series - 5
  • Approximations - 5
  • Data interpretation – 10 (5 from tabular representations & 5 from graph)
  • Quadratic equations – 5
  • Other topics – 10 (Profit Loss, Partnerships, Average,Time & Work, CI/ SI, Average, Ratio, Proportion, Percentage, Boats & Stream.

Good number of attempts: 16 - 25

Reasoning: It had a total of 35 questions, which were quite easy (except puzzles) & many are confident to score good marks in this section.

  • Puzzles & Arrangments: 15 – 20 (circular, floor, linear etc.,)
  • Direction Sense 3 -5
  • Inequalities: 5
  • Syllogism: 5
  • Blood relation: 3 – 5

Good number of attempts: 15 - 22

English: This part was the toughest among all sections for most candidates as questions were difficult & had to spend time in choosing the correct answers.

  • Reading comprehension: 5 – 7
  • Cloze test: 8 – 10
  • Error spotting: 10
  • Parajumbles: 5
  • No synonyms/ antonyms in few shifts

Good number of attempts: 9 - 15IBPS PO 2016 prelims exam review,IBPS PO prelims expected cutoffs, ibps po exam time allotment, what will be IBPS PO prelims cutoffs

Eventhough majority of candidates agreed that the paper was moderate, lack of time was a general complaint from everyone.

Hence we can confidently say that like previous years, time management holds the key on whether an individual gets shortlisted for IBPS PO mains or not.

Expected IBPS PO Prelims Cutoffs

Predicting cutoff scores for a common bank exam written by over 10 lakh people is absolutely not possible.

But by looking at previous or similar tests & taking those factors into account, we have managed to pinpoint the range within which the cutoffs could fall.

Safe Attempts: Most have attended between 38 – 50 questions correctly while very few managed to complete 60+ questions.

If you are looking for the IBPS PO prelims expected cutoffs, we hope it could fall in the following region:

English: 4 – 8

Reasoning: 8 – 12

Quantitative aptitude: 6 – 11

Total Cutoffs (expected):

General 35 - 42
OBC 33 - 41
SC 28 - 32
ST 20 -28

Accuracy: All those who were cool during the course of the test inspite of the short time can secure decent scores. The reason why I say this is because of negative marks.

Do read: How many will qualify in IBPS PO prelims & when are the results?

Candidates who rushed to complete at the last minute may find their scores going down further as their no. of wrong answers increase. Therefore it could be a close call for many individuals.

What`s your Experience?

How did you perform in the prelims? Where do you think the cutoffs will head?

Share the attempts & areas to concentrate with other readers so that those appearing for next week will find it useful

Bank Jobs vs. SSC Jobs:

ssc jobs vs bank jobs, bank jobs or govt jobs, ssc jobs vs bank jobs, should i choose bank jobs over ssc jobs This is one of the biggest question that we encounter whenever any notification of SSC is published.

Infact, there is nothing called SSC jobs since SSC is just an organization like IBPS that fills vacancies in govt. departments through respective selection process.

Incase if you wish to compare, it should be taken only as bank jobs VS  govt jobs filled through SSC.

Are salaries in bank jobs & govt jobs same? – is one another doubt that seems to haunt many youngsters searching for opportunities in govt sector.

To answer it, here is a quick comparison - so everyone can understand & benefit:

  • Bank employees don’t come under the government payroll directly, although banks are owned by Govt. of India.
  • Salary hikes/ wage revisions are announced by the government after a pay commission. They are meant only for those directly employed by them & NOT for those in public banks.

The salaries for bank employees are negotiated between the management, employee unions & government officials once every 3 years.Bankers salary may increase in 2017, as talks are set to begin soon.

  • This is the reason for regular strikes by bank employees.
  • Employees in a bank have to deal with customers daily while its not a necessity in other govt jobs (except few depts.)

Finally, bank jobs cannot be compared with those filled through SSC as their profiles, & responsibilities are completely different.

We feel this article would have given you an overview about the SSC exams in 2017, govt jobs to be filled, while also answering some of your long standing doubts.

IBPS PO 2016: How Many will Pass in Prelims & Results Date [Explained]

The IBPS PO prelims 2016 exam for the recruitment of officers (scale I) in public sector banks is currently underway.Every year, close to 10 – 12 lakh candidates register for this examinations as it is required to apply for bank jobs in India. When so many people take part in the selection process for a total of 8800 vacancies, we tell you about how many candidates will qualify for IBPS PO mains & IBPS PO prelims results expected dates.

IBPS PO 2016 recruitment selection process consists of two stages – Preliminary Exam & Main exam. While the prelims are held on October 16, 22, 23 & 27, the mains are scheduled to happen in the month of November 2016.

Although the 1st day candidates have termed the prelims as ‘tough’ & ‘tricky’, we must wait for all shifts to get over to get an idea of the overall difficulty level & performance.

How Many Will Qualify for IBPS PO Mains 2016:

According to IBPS PO notification, 8822 officer vacancies are to be filled during the year 2017 -18 in govt banks.See below for bank-wise breakup of available posts:

The procedure of selection is as follows:

  • Qualify in Prelims & get shortlisted for mains exam
  • Qualify in Mains & get chosen for personal interview
  • Qualify in Interview & get appointed as PO

It is estimated that atleast 8 – 10 lakh candidates appear for the prelims but IBPS will fix cutoffs in such a way they shortlist in the ratio of 1:20 (20 times the no. of vacancies). The same ratio was practiced in SBI PO recruitment as well.

Going by that formula, 8822 x 20 = 1,76,440.

So approximately 1.80 lakh candidates should qualify for IBPS PO 2016 mains.

The prelims cutoff scores would be determined accordingly by the institute to match this number.Checkout our IBPS PO prelims expected cutoffs & exam review.

When is IBPS PO Prelims Results?

Since the tests are conducted through online mode, the results are normally out within few weeks.IBPS is also known to declare the results of their examinations quite fast.

As per their official calendar, the IBPS PO prelims results will be released in the 1st or 2nd week of November 2016.

Qualifiers would then have to appear for the IBPS PO Main 2016 on November 20.
