According to IBPS clerk 2016 notification, 19,243 clerk job vacancies are to be filled for 2017-18 in public sector banks.

Depending on the final scores in this clerical recruitment exercise (test & interview), IBPS shall automatically allot you to banks based on your preference.

How does bank preferences work?

You are allotted to a bank based on your chosen preferences, if your final total score is high & there are sufficient no. of vacancies in that particular bank.

Example: Incase the bank in your 1st preference has filled all posts in a particular state with top scorers, your 2nd preferred bank will be considered. If that option is also complete, your 3rd choice is looked.

The allotment cycle goes in the preference order you had given at the time of application registration.

It is why you should be careful in selecting the bank you wish to work as you cannot change the preferences later.

How to Fill IBPS Clerk Preferences?

how to register clerk preferences, ibps bank clerks allotment procedure, how to submit preference for clerk allotments

The job profile of clerk is confined within the branch only as they are responsible for collecting & dispensing cash to customers. That is the reason why they are also called as single window operator (cashier).

Just because they are required to interact with visitors, candidates applying for clerk posts are required to posses proficiency in the local language (able to read, write & speak) of that specific state.

Based on your State: The job location of clerks will be within a state where you to choose to appear for the online test.Hence you need not worry of getting posted in another state.

Mostly, banks have large no. of branches in the state where its head office is located. Therefore here is a table that will help you with the banks & their head office location.

There is no head office in my state. What to do?

There are some states where no head office is present.

Candidates from such areas can submit their preferences based on nearby states, popularity of the bank & employees feedback.

Doubts about IBPS Clerk Bank Preferences:

It is natural for many to still have doubts related to registering preferences for IBPS clerk 2016.We have compiled some of your common questions that should answer you.

Can I apply for any state where i dont stay?

Yes.You can apply for any clerical vacancies in any state.

But, it is necessary to know the official language of that particular state. You must be able to read, write & speak that state`s regional/ official language.

Banks will test your language proficiency before appointment. All those who fail to qualify in it shall have their selection cancelled.

Will I be transferred to other states?

No.For clerk jobs, the transfers would be only with your home state only & not outside of it.

I am still confused about preferences. What shall I do?

After looking at the various options available, few candidates will not be satisfied. Here is what we wish to tell such people.

For the post of clerk, there is no big difference that you can find between banks as the job profile, salary, allowances etc., are almost similar across public sector banks.

Whichever bank you choose - clerk appointments shall happen within your state initially & would be asked to join in a local branch only.

Inorder to help you prepare for IBPS PO 2016 exams & crack it easily, a proper & free study plan is designed as per the latest pattern & difficulty level..

Most of you will know that IBPS exam pattern is based on a two tier written test procedure - Preliminary & Mains.

Only those candidates who clear the prelims can appear for the main examination & based on this score only, they will be shortlisted for personal interviews.

Therefore here is a detailed study plan for the IBPS PO prelims exam 2016 that is scheduled on October 16, 22 & 23.

What is IBPS PO Prelims & Syllabus?

IBPS PO Prelims is the 1st exam that all applicants need to write. It is only a qualifying test & your marks in it wont be considered for final selection.

It is very likely that the IBPS PO syllabus shall be similar to the SBI PO prelims held in July. The highlight of prelims exam pattern is:

  • Total marks: 100
  • 1 hour time limit
  • 100 questions from Quantitative Aptitude, English & Reasoning ability

Cutoffs on each section & total score will be fixed by IBPS based on the performance of all candidates in prelims. So you need to secure above those two cutoffs in order to qualify for mains.

Quantitative Aptitude: This section shall comprise of 35 questions that could be picked from the following chapters:

  • Numbers – Basics of Number Systems; HCF & LCM; Simplication; Number Series
  • Arithmetic – Averages & Alligations; Ratio & Proportion; Percentage, Profit & Loss; Simple & Compound Interest; Age Problems; Speed, Time & Distance; Time & Work
  • Modern Math – Probability; Permutations & Combinations
  • Geometry – Mensuration (questions about area, perimeter and volume)
  • Quadratic Equations –  2 quadratic equations are given asking you to compare the magnitudes of x & y
  • DI – Data Interpretation & Data sufficiency

Reasoning: The expected chapters in this section are given below from which 35 questions could be asked.:

  • Analytical Reasoning Linear arrangements, Circular Arrangement, Selection, Matching etc.
  • Logical Inequalities Different inequality relations are provided
  • Syllogism – Deductive logic questions with statement and conclusions.
  • Blood Relations Questions related to family tree and relations.
  • Coding-Decoding – Words or phrases that are coded are provided and one needs to identify the matching codes.
  • Miscellaneous – A small number of questions may be dedicated to Direction sense, Input-Output, Critical reasoning (Assumptions, Courses of action, Arguments)

While each correct answer fetches you 1 mark, the level of questions would only be of easy to moderate level.

Note: In recent years, questions from Analytical Reasoning have increased in bank prelims exam while the focus is less on on Syllogism, Coding-Decoding etc.

English: This section will contain 30 questions from the following areas:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Grammar
  • Parajumbles
  • Cloze Test & Fill in the blanks
  • Vocabulary

You are required to score pass mark in each of the above three papers.

IBPS PO Study Plan

Based on the syllabus and the importance of topics (expected number of questions), - a 8 week study plan has been created which would make yourself ready within the next 60 days.

How to read the color codes: Colors on topics denote the expected no. of questions that could be asked in that specific section.

The no. of hours specified under topics in the table is for a week & not for a day.

The plan is created assuming 25% of the time for learning and 75% for practice. So stick to the study plan to crack IBPS PO prelims.

For example: When you see 8 hours being marked for a set of topics, it means we you must spend 2 hours in learning the concepts and 6 hours in practicing them.

To practice, we recommend Oliveboard`s online mock tests for Rs.499Click here to buy them.

You can refer to the plan below or if you want to create a more personalized plan, you can use Oliveboard’s Study Planner & save your plan.Click here to create your own personal plan.

The plan also suggests you spend at least 1 hour (or more) after each mock test on analyzing your mistakes & seeing how to improve than blindly taking as many tests as possible.

Remember: It is what you do between mock tests that will determine your improvement, not how many tests you attempt. To take a Free Mock Test in the new IBPS PO prelims pattern, click here

So the final weeks should be entirely allotted only for practicing/ revisions.

We believe the above syllabus & study plans will help you in managing that time effectively to crack the IBPS PO 2016 exams.

This IBPS PO exam study plan was exclusively created for BankExamsIndia.com readers by Oliveboard: It is an exam preparation site for Bank PO exams. It provides Videos, Study Material, Practice Tests and Test Series for IBPS PO (Prelims & Mains). It was selected as one of the top education startups of India.Click here to visit the site.

IBPS PO Exam Pattern & 3 Simple Methods to Start Preparing

IBPS PO exam patternTo become an officer in public sector banks in India, you need to qualify in IBPS PO exam.Inorder to successfully pass this examination, you must know about what & how to prepare. With increasing competition for bank jobs, the exam difficulty has also been increased. For you to understand it better, we are explaining the IBPS PO 2016 exam pattern in detail along with simple tips for you to start preparations.

IBPS PO 2016 (VI) is a 3-stage selection process comprising of Prelims, Mains & Interview stages. Each stage is an elimination round which means, only those who qualify in each test shall proceed to the next.

As part of the IBPS PO recruitment, there are 2 written exams:

  • Preliminary exam or Prelims
  • Main exam

While every applicant can appear for prelims, mains can be written only by those who pass in prelims with the necessary cutoff scores.

IBPS Prelims Exam Pattern:

This is the 1st phase of examination in IBPS PO recruitment in the following pattern:

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Total Questions: 100

IBPS PO prelims exam pattern

The IBPS PO prelims question paper consists of objective type questions on Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude & English. The regularly asked topics in each section are:

  • Reasoning – Reasoning concepts of assumptions, syllogisms, seating arrangements, data sufficiency and input-output
  • Quantitative Aptitude – BODMAS concepts, data interpretation, time & distance, time & work, profit & loss and percentages
  • English - Grammar rules, vocabulary, comprehension, sentence arrangement and sentence correction

Questions are of moderate difficulty only with 1 mark for each correct answer & 0.25 negative mark for every wrong one.

Cutoff Marks: IBPS PO cutoffs are applied in two stages – on each section & on the total score. Those of you who secure above these cutoffs are only shortlisted for mains.

Since this is treated only as a screening test, your prelims score is are not considered for final selection.

IBPS Mains Exam Pattern:

If you want to feature in the final merit list, passing in the mains exam is extremely important. The general overview of IBPS PO mains is:

  • Duration: 140 minutes
  • Total Marks: 200
  • Total Questions: 200

The IBPS PO mains also consists of multiple choice questions but has more number of sections. It comprises of:

  1. Reasoning
  2. English Language
  3. Quantitative Aptitude
  4. General Awareness
  5. Computer Knowledge

An important change introduced from last year is - there is a time limit on each section within which you need to answer all questions. So candidates cannot move between papers without completing a specific test.

IBPS PO Mains Exam Pattern

Similarly, the system will automatically open the next section if the time limit for that section is over, even if you havent answered all the questions in that paper.

The level of difficulty is usually moderate to difficult because of the massive competition. With only 8800 PO vacancies to be filled in 2017-18, IBPS would shortlist less number of people in main exam compared to last year.

Indian railways does not recruit in large numbers every year. That is the reason why over 90 lakh young graduates applied for the Railways RRB NTPC recruitment (CEN 03/ 2015).

A total of 18272 vacancies for posts like Assistant station master, Reservation clerk, Commercial apprentice, Goods guard etc., were advertised by various railway recruitment boards (RRB).

With the tests held in 74 shifts, it is considered as the worlds largest online exam. Probably, it could be the reason behind the long delay in publishing results as govt organisations need to abide by certain hiring rules.

Download Your RRB NTPC Exam Answer Keys

The railway recruitment boards are responsible for conducting hiring for various open positions in their circle.

As mentioned in their recent circular, railways boards have activated the link to view your responses for questions asked in the exam held during March – May 2016.

The facility to view, download & raise objections on answer keys will remain open from August 12 to 19, 2016 only.

Click here to login & use your registration number & date of birth to enter.

      1. Download your question paper to the computer & open it to see the keys along with your choice for that specific question.
      2. Raise an objection through the same website if you feel the answer options are wrong.

Incase there are no mis-match, just count the number of correct attempts which will give you an idea of your expected scores.

When will RRB NTPC results be declared?

We know many of you will be eager to know the date of RRB NTPC results. But the following steps

      • The objections on question & answer keys received from candidates will be analysed by RRBs.
      • A final key is prepared, based on which your answer sheets are evaluated.
      • The exam results are then released on website.

Therefore, we are estimating the results to be announced in October or November 2016 as it could take atleast 2 months for the above procedures to get over.

Get Ready for 2nd Stage Exam

The number of candidates who appeared for the RRB NTPC exam touched 90 lakh. There were even reports of malpractices at certain centres.

To filter competition & also bring in an extra layer of transparency in the recruitment, RRBs seems to have decided to hold a 2nd level of exam, which is also an online test (computer based test – CBT)

When is the 2nd stage exam?

Exact dates are not known as no official notification has been released yet.We will know about it after the RRB NTPC results are announced.
