Is computer course certificate necessary to apply for bank jobs - has been one of the most frequently asked question by many candidates aspiring for bank jobs.To clear their doubts & for others to understand, we have explained in detail about this criteria.
In the recent recruitments of public sector banks, especially for clerk vacancies - computer certificate from a recognized training institute were also mentioned as one of the eligibility criteria along with educational qualifications for the post.
The main reason is,
All banks in India have started using core banking solution (CBS)application, through which all banking services have been networked and computerized.In view of these developments, bank employees will have to spend more time before the computer systems.
Now coming to your doubts, here is a compilation of questions in relation to this condition,
Q: What course should I join?
A: Computer awareness & Office automation is the name of course prescribed by banks.This is a foundation course that comprises of computer basics, DOS, MS Office, Internet & E-Mail.
- The duration of training may differ in each centre, but minimum of 1 or 2 months could be sufficient.
Q: Where can I get?
A: Certificates issued by any state/ central government recognized or popular institutes can be given as valid proofs.
- Look for any specific details about the type of training centre in the recruitment notice.If there is no mention, you can join in any.
Q: I have studied computers in college.What to do?
A: Candidates who have had computer science as a subject in degree are not required to submit any certificate.
Q: What is the cost of this course?
A: The prices for office automation course varies in each centre & city.In general, the rates shall start from Rs.4000.Incase of high fees, choose only the important packages such as Ms Office, Dos etc., & get trained in them.
For Clerk Jobs:
If you have appeared for the IBPS common exam & looking to apply for bank clerk jobs – it would be better to get a computer certificate ready & not wait till the banks announce vacancies. See common clerk exam results in Feb 2012

The name of the course depends on differenct centre.But the skills that you require are mentioned above.Ask the center to train you in that & get a certificate..
MBA graduate,no need to produce certificate if you have information technology/computers as your paper
I have done MCA,I have depth knowledge of computer then why should i join the computer courses?

sir in the case for Allahabad bank it is mentioned that courses "like diploma in computer operation"can u make it more clear?i had studied computers in my class 12th &also a subject in my 1st year of graduation .I had also done the tally course. im am eligible for allahabad bank po?

I am agreeing with this statement. Because in bank manual work is ended and in all banks computer are used. So for getting job in banks a job seeker should pass computer certificate.

I'm unable to find any course in any Institution which can be done in 3 weeks within Rs. 3000 so please name at least one such course. I will be very grateful.
Office automation course is provided in most centres,that covers MSOffice & Internet.Price of the course is just an estimate & it may differ.
Thanx 4 ur reply. I found a course which covers th requirements, mentioning here cz it might be helpful for others. There's a course from DOEACC cld "CCC". Itz a 3 months course but has an option 2 do it extensively in 10 days only. Course fee including exam fee varies btw Rs. 1600-2600 depending upon the Center chosen.
