The selection process for 41000 govt bank jobs concluded recently with IBPS completing allotments for successful candidates. For the past couple of years, Indian banking sector emerged as one of the leading job creators compared to other sectors. This has led many fresh graduates to appear for banking exams regularly. The answer on how many bank vacancies were created last year here.
To compensate for the large no. of retirements happening in middle/ senior cadre, public sector banks are recruiting aggressively.
This trend continued in the year 2015-16 as well with approximately 40,000 vacancies being created across various positions in govt owned banks.
First, How do these Banks Recruit?
A common selection process for jobs in 20 government banks is held by IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection). They are responsible for conducting common written exams & interview for different positions.
Candidates who qualify finally with the necessary cutoffs are allotted to banks based on their scores.
In this method, merit places an important role.
A top scoring person gets a job in the bank he/ she chose as their 1st preference. The least scoring candidate in merit list is allotted as per their 5th or 6th or even last preference.
Bank Recruitments 2015 -16
Every year, the IBPS bank exams are held during the second part of that calendar year.So the following data are for recruitment exams conducted in the year 2015-16.
3 major banking exams were held in 2015.They are for the following entry level posts:
- Probationary Officer (PO)
- Specialist Officer (SO)
IBPS V means, the 5th year of this exam, that were conducted on different dates in 2015-16.
As you can see, a total of 41,597 bank jobs were created by govt. banks.
These openings will be filled in the current year of 2016 with qualified candidates of IBPS bank exams held in 2015-16.
Bank Jobs: Competition is Growing
Although vacancies are only in few thousands the response for these exams were much higher. Here are some statistics:
- 12 – 14 lakh candidates register for IBPS PO & Clerk common exams every year
- 9 - 10 lakh of them appear for the test
State Bank of India does not participate in this common recruitment procedure. They issue separate recruitment notifications & select candidates based on that scores.
So whenever an SBI recruitment notification is released, atleast 20 lakh candidates apply due to the huge brand value of SBI.There will be no SBI associate banks recruitment hereafter as they will soon merge with SBI.
Such figures only showcase the growing interest for government jobs (such as banks, SSC, PSC etc) among Indian youth.
Are there bank exams in 2016?
Yes.If you are waiting to start your career in indian banks or is looking to quit your present job, planning early is necessary.
The IBPS bank exams in 2016 for PO, clerks & specialist officers shall happen only after October.
How many Bank Jobs in 2017?
Since IBPS is to conduct the exams during the later part of 2016, vacancies shall be filled in the year 2017 only.
This brings us to the next question: How many bank jobs to be filled 2017?
The number of bank jobs in 2017 is expected to be similar like last year – which is around 11 -13,000 officers & 22 – 25,000 clerks.
Apart from these govt. banks, many other private banks such as ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, Axis Bank etc., also conduct recruitments.but they dont require these IBPS exam scores.(see apply for bank jobs without IBPS scores)
