SBI 11000 Clerks : 36 Lakh Applications Received

calendar The largest public sector bank in India,State bank of India (SBI) invited applications for the recruitment of 11,000 clerks starting last month. The online registration process for the recruitment closed on September 15th & now it seems more than 36 lakh candidates have applied for 11,000 vacancies, making SBI think on methods to conduct written exam for this huge number.

The 11,000 clerk positions have been divided across various circles based on its requirements, with reservations for each circle. As per a newspaper report, it is said that out of 36 lakh applications,Mumbai circle – with highest number of vacancies (1100 posts) has received close to 5 lakh applications!

Now,with the written test for clerk recruitment already fixed on 8th & 15th November 2009, it would be a difficult task to accommodate all 36 lakh applicants on these dates. The final announcement on the dates & timings can be expected soon from SBI management, said our sources.

MBAs as Clerks: Although the current recession, sluggishness in job market & status of working for India`s largest bank, are considered to be the reasons behind this huge response ,candidates with post-graduate degree & MBA have applied in masses.

Infact the minimum eligibility required to apply for clerk vacancy was a pass in 12th std.

High competition: With so many applicants vying for a job in SBI, a heavy competition is on the cards. The real test would be evident at the time of result announcement as the minimum cut-offs could increase, especially with over qualified candidates also lining up.

In addition to this, the time taken to release the results could also be pushed further.Banks normally complete a recruitment process within 7-8 months of initial advertisement. With a huge number of candidates, don’t be surprised if SBI takes more than a year to release the final results!
