SBI Clerk Recruitment: Change in Official Language Rule

State Bank of India has announced clerical vacancies for each state in India & as per sbi clerk job profile, clerical employees should be proficient in official language of that particular state.

Being proficient means, a candidate must be able to read, write, speak & understand the official (local) language of the state they are applying for.

To avoid confusions, SBI had infact provided a list of official languages for each state in their notification itself.

According to the revised list, applicants from the states of West Bengal, J & K, Himachal Pradesh, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Uttakarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Jharkhand & Bihar have a choice to select from any of the given official languages.

I dont see the language listed in the application form. What to do?

You cannot choose the revised language in the current application form.A separate link to change the official language will be activated by the bank on their website after the last date.

So for the moment, apply for the state/ circle even though you don’t see the language listed.

Why choosing the official language is important in SBI clerk 2016 recruitment?

At the time of document verification,

  • SBI will check whether you had studied the local language in school (std 10 marksheet) OR
  • You need to appear for a language test before final selection wherein you may be asked to write or speak in the regional language of the state.

All those who didn’t study the language & also couldn’t clear the language test will be disqualified from the selection process.
